This is a great point. We are so often pigeonholed into what we think we should be or what others think we should be and that can be devastating for the psyche. I for years thought that I just needed to be in a field where I would make tons of money and of course my family thought I was ready to take on the world of business. But i just did not enjoy that! It took some time but i finally broke that mold of what I thought was expected of me and found a field for work where I know I will make a much greater and more meaningful difference. It can be hard to do this but I know it was the right choice for me and I hope that there are others who can find the courage to do that as well.

This is the perfect example of how finding your perfect fit can totally change your life. I was kind of the same way. I knew when I was in college that I wanted to work with young people but I did not actually know in what manner, although the ideal fit seemed to be an eduation major. But once I got in the classroom as a teacher I knew that I had made a horrible mistake. Although I knew my content I did not like the rigors passed down from the school district and the idea that you always had to teach to the test and help test scores districtwide go up. Needless to say I was very unhappy and knew that there was a better place for me. Now I work in student affairs in a smaller university in my town but I love it. It gives me the chance to work with young adults who are on the cusp of doing great things with their lives, and if they are not, then it is my role to help them get there. This is where I feel I can make the most difference and I am so happy to have finally found where I belong.
